Journal May 28--Kansas

May 28 Kansas
I am a bit embarrassed to make this report, because today we rented a U-Haul van and drove across Kansas. We have been slower than we had estimated, and have stayed longer than planned at some locations. Our original plan called for visiting Patti's sister, Marie, in Gunnison, Colorado, before Marie went back east for a wedding and for Patti's parent's 50th wedding anniversary. We had to make up time somewhere, and I apologize to all of Kansas for driving, rather than riding across your state. No apologies for using motor transport, though; this is a family outing, and we have nothing to prove by refusing a ride for the sake of ideals. We would have liked to pedal every inch of the way, but not at the expense of missing a date with Marie and Scott, or missing our ferry from Vancouver Island to Alaska.

So please hurry right on to the next few pages, because some of the best riding we had was in Colorado and Utah.
